On August 5, 2005, our sweet Macie earned her angel wings. Over the years, we've done many things to remember her. One of the first was to create a memorial garden at our home. From planting butterfly bushes, to placing special statues, hanging chimes and building a fairy garden, it helps bring us comfort.
I often sit on this bench thinking about Macie. How she changed the world during her short life. How we continue to learn from her valiant journey. Every one of us experiences grief differently. I still want to be Macie's Mom, all these years later. I imagine us putting together little villages of magical gnomes and fairies. So, every spring I become an architect of a lilliputian world all our own.
And then I discovered fairy doors. 🧚🏼♀️ Legends state that fairy doors are given to humans so that they may have access to fairies and their realms. While some may believe fairy doors are only relevant in places like Ireland, where fairy mythology is strongly intertwined with culture, there are fairies all over the world. While in Ireland this summer, I found two of these treasures. All I know is these whimsical portals make me happy, especially on tough days.
I encourage you to use your creativity to remember your loved one. For me, it's being in nature where I can feel the breeze and hear songbirds - they certainly bring me peace. What can you do to find healing?
